The ancient Greek philosophers have said: “A sound mind in a sound body.” Sports make over bodies stronger, prevent us from getting too fat, and keep us healthy. It gives us valuable practice in making eyes, brain, and muscles work together. In tennis, our eyes see the ball coming, judge its speed and direction and pass this information on to the brain. The brain then has to decide what to do, and to send its order to the muscles of the arms, legs, and so on, so that the ball is met and hit back where it ought to go. Sport is not only a facto of strengthening one’s health. It also helps to form one’s character and will-power. Since every early age children are encouraged to active outdoor games. Physical training is a regular subject on the school curriculum and is usually practiced twice a week which is sill not enough. Our school is equipped with sports ground and a stadium outside, near the school and a gym. Our gym is equipped with different gymnastic apparatuses – the vaulting horse, the climbing rope. We had also a Swedish wall, but now we haven’t got it.
We start the gym class usually by warming up, running several laps around the gym, then we do some free standing exercises. In cold weather our classes are held indoors and we practice some elements of gymnastic, aerobics and play indoor games. Before the gym lessons we change into shorts and shirts. In summer, spring and early autumn we mostly have our classes outside in the stadium where we practice different events – races, long jump, throwing of the ball, I’m better at long distances than at short and I also like long jump. In fact I don’t like sport lessons at school, because in my opinion they are boring and we do the same every lesson. I like it only when we do something connected with basketball or racing, or long jump.…
