This training was extremely useful for me and I'm glad that the school gave me the opportunity to do my managerial placement somewhere other than the typical placements. Our industry is growing and in order for to grow with the industry we need to be more diverse in our understanding of the hospitality industries needs and wants than ever before. There is no way in getting away from technology as it's continuously creeping up behind us. People have less time on their hands and technology allows persons to utilize time more efficiently. The regular ways that we know how people reserve, book and collect information is changing and has already changed at a rapid speed. If we choose not to be part of this change the hospitality industry will be foremost ran by technical geeks making the programmes and devices to run it, and in turn probably doing it badly. We'll end up with the situation that we've seen so many times, nice application, non functional.
Persons in the hospitality sector have to be aware of the changes and in turn learn about the technology that is about to change the industry. With our knowledge of hospitality, may it be tourism, restaurant or hotel we are huge assets when it comes to developing services for the customer because few people understand the needs of the customers better than we do.
If persons continue to have tunnel vision failing to see the big picture I believe failure is inevitable, a newer better hospitality industry is just around the corner and Haaga Institute should focus on adjusting the study syllabus to adapt to these visible changes, preparing students for a changing environment.
