It is hard not to agree with the mentioned above statement made by Samuel Johnson, because what otherwise if not the language makes our thoughts coherent and expressed in the way we wish. I think that even emotions, though expressed in a chaotic or disorganized manner, are weak in comparison to the words, arranged in such a way so that to achieve the desired purpose – to cause fear, to make the others believe to your reckless ideas, to make obey you, to make respect you, etc. With the help of the language you can express desire, hate, love, disgust, contempt, pleasure, joy, grief, and even indifference.

Speaking about dressing our thoughts, it should be relevant to say that since all of us are different, we express our thoughts (or dress them, according to Samuel Johnson) differently. If for one it will be enough to tell what’s on his mind only in two or three simple sentences, then for the other it will take an hour for expressing the same idea. Then, if for criminals, or people with the low intentions in life foul language (or swear language) will be the only means of telling their ideas, then let’s say the language of the cops looking for the same criminals will be different. And here I do not speak of spheres of life where different vocabulary is applied. I speak about different people in general with different psyches. Has anyone thought about why the way of thinking of the writer or poet differs from that of the common man? And what is the initial reason for writer’s expressing his thoughts about e.g. love in this particular way, and common man’s ideas are more primitive, more deprived of that elation and inspiration that are inevitable part of every writer and poet?…
