Conclusion
The European Parliament (EP) is the only directive body of the European Union, which main functions are to connect the people to the political system and make legitimate the things done in name of that political system.
A big role in elections plays voters and their political choice. There are different courses which investigate voter’s choice: Bandwagon effect, wishful thinking effect, and rational democratic model. These three models do not indicate the political reality, but they surely help to understand at least something of the difficult structure of the people’s voting behavior.
One of the most important factors which influence voter’s choice in elections is political advertising. We can separate different political advertisements, for example, oral political advertisement, advertisement in radio, television, internet, political portrait and sculpture, political caricature, photos, political posters, political cartoons, souvenirs and booklets, brochures and flyers.
Authors compare two big Latvian political parties Harmony Center and People’s party in empirical part of research. Political party People’s party has big pre-election campaign, about LVL 490 192 and they got one mandate in European Parliament, but the union of political parties “Harmony Center” has pre-election campaign about LVL 320 542 and they got 2 mandates in European Parliament. Comparing this facts hypothesis of research “received places in European Parliament are not influence by election campaign” is attested.
