Guglielmo Marconi - Famous Scientist, Radio Inventor
Marconi began to conduct experiments, building much of his own equipment in the attic of his home
His goal was to use radio waves to create a practical system of "wireless telegraphy”
Marconi, just twenty years old, began his first experiments working on his own
In 1894, he built a storm alarm made up of a battery, a coherer, and an electric bell
Soon he was able to make a bell ring on the other side of the room by pushing a telegraphic button on a bench
In the summer of 1895 he moved his experimentation outdoors.
After modifying transmitter and receiver antennas Marconi increased the range of signal significantly.
At the age 21 Marconi travelled to London for further researches
On 13 May 1897, Marconi sent the first ever wireless communication over open sea (~6 km), next step was 16 km (Newfoundland)
Numerous additional demonstrations followed, and Marconi began to receive international attention
Transmission between land and ships in open sea.…
