Business research is a systematic inquiry that provides information to guide business decisions. It is a process of planning, acquiring, analyzing and disseminating relevant data information, and insights to decision makers in ways that mobilize the organization to take appropriate actions that, in turn, maximize business performance.
Good research generates dependable data that are derived by professionally conducted practices and that can be used reliably for decision making. Good research follows the standards of the scientific method: systematic, empirically based procedures for generating replicable research.
Some characteristics of good business research:
• Purpose clearly defined-the purpose of the business research-the problem involved, or the decision to made-should be clearly defined and sharply delineated in terms as unambiguous as possible.
• Research process detailed-The research procedures used should be described in sufficient detail to permit another research to repeat the research. The report should reveal with candor the sources of data and the means by which they were obtained.
• Research design thoroughly planned-The procedural design of the research should be carefully planned to yield results that are as objective as possible. Efforts should be made to minimize the influence of personal bias in selecting and recording data.…
