The thing is that unscrupulous journalists and reporters make money by simply exploiting people. It’s invasion of privacy, it’s a reason why famous people cannot even sunbathe in their gardens without being photographed by hoardes of paparazzi which are just like vultures. All this may be expressed in one word –gutter press. And we should fight against it, imposing stricter censorship of the press.
However, it is true that the media provides us with valuable information and entertainment (or infotainment as this combination is now sometimes called), and censorship would deprive us of much of this. Personally, I take the view that while the media may occasionally abuse its position of power, the benefits greatly outweigh the disadvantages. Our lives would be much emptier without the wealth of information available to us today.
