I found an even more plausible explanation is a mild combination of the main theories presented. The main focus, witchcraft, because of the Anasazian beliefs. Beliefs and religion tend to be the central focal point in which a culture revolves their lifestyles and existence around. Cannibalism evidence exists as a result of rituals and the alleviation of witches. Many of these theories more than likely occurred, causing the Anasazi to disappear. Toltecs raiding their villages along with the suggestion of drought are two very key factors in the cause for being driven away from their pueblos.
As far as the issue over the disappearance of the ancient Pueblo people, there is still no clear answer. Over the centuries assumptions have been made, but the aforementioned theories continue to fight aggressively for first place in the race to discover what really happened to the Anasazi. Cannibalism may have taken place and most archaeologists acknowledge that fact. However, it did not occur at all of the archaeological sites in the Southwest where bones have been discovered. The topic is a sensitive one and we must be respectful of the ancestors of the current Native American tribes who live in the Southwestern United States today. Just remember, while you're standing in the empty doorways of their houses, the question is poignant and obvious: A thousand years from now (or perhaps even less), will some traveler be searching through the abandon buildings of our civilization?
