They are valued individuals who reveal a loving connection. Their decline is triggered by their ambition for Macbeth to be great, sparked by the witches' prophecy, and not because they are evil. Macbeth's hesitancy on whether or not to kill King Duncan, and Lady Macbeth's begging of the spirits to take away her womanly qualities, show that lack of sympathy does not come effortlessly to them.
