Human and Animal Intelligence
“As far as we know, no dog can compose music, no dolphin can speak in rhymes, and no parrot can solve equations with two unknowns.”1 After perusing very many articles on this theme I can say that in general people are a bit smarter than animals. I read comparisons of people and animals that showed their ability to use tools, to think, and also to use their language. There were very many different opinions, thoughts and arguments which tried to show supremacy of both human and animals. After all I decided to use the definition of the word intelligence and to talk about differences in human brains to prove the superiority of human intelligence.
A definition is a very good resource that helps to demonstrate and to explain something. I chose the one which in my opinion points out the real meaning of the word intelligence. It sounds like this – intelligence is “the ability to use memory, knowledge, experience, understanding, reasoning, imagination and judgement in order to solve problems and adapt to new situations.” Reading the articles about human and animal intelligence I found some information about animals’ ability to use memory but they use only short term memory like for remembering the nest place, also for finding the food which is hidden. Human beings have 2 more kinds of memory – long term and working memory. Carrying on I need to talk about knowledge which is also mentioned in the definition.
