How to prevent the spread of fake news?
In today’s digital era, everybody has unlimited access to information on the internet, but not everyone is able to recognize whether the information given is true or fake. To prevent fake messages from being wrapped around your finger, everyone needs to know a couple of tricks that allow us to distinguish false messages from the true ones. In recent years, there has been a tendency among users of social networks to share with “benign” news without paying attention to their veracity. People like the idea that they can have a positive impact on the environment. Many believe that positive news, regardless of their veracity, brings joy- and this in turn shows that the world is getting better.
As a rule, there are five key questions, which everyone should ask themselves when being faced with a specific message, before accepting it as true: what is the author of the message, how does this message is supposed to be interpreted, how could others understand the values of this message when passing on, why has this message has been created? It is even more important to be critical. It is very important, both in the context of social media and in the context of the dissemination of any false message, that we cannot significantly change anything by sharing, because it is an activity based on social networks that has no legitimate basis. Sharing can draw attention but cannot in any way affect decisions.
