Define Identity, Social Construction and Society

The word identity is complicated because their's is no one definition that define it. Sociologist and Psychologists defines it in relation to their area of interest. To me as a psychology student the word identity refers to the capacity for self _ reflection and the awareness of self. Johnson (1986) defines it as an umbrella term used throughout the social sciences for an individual's comprehension of him or herself as a discrete, separate entity.
