Locking back in the history I found out that dancing goes back to primitive times. It attributes to witch doctors who were dancing around the sick person; the idea was to exorcise evil spirits from him. But nowadays dancing often is related to leotards, tights, shoes, performances or celebrities participating in a ballroom competition. Dance therapy cores are in the 19th century. Thanks to Marian Chace, a former dancer, dance therapy developed in UK, and after a while she introduced it to America. In 1942 she began giving lectures and demonstrations. After opening her own dance school in Washington, D.C., Chace began to realize the effects dance and movement had on her students. She was soon asked to work at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington. And in 1966 she assisted in the establishment of the American Dance Therapy Association, and was the first president of this organization. Chace's theory was that dance was a form of communication which fulfilled a basic human need. She believed that every person had a desire to communicate, and sought to assist her clients in finding a way to communicate.
From this idea has developed the theory of the dance therapy that is used nowadays.…
