A managed supply chain environment begins with forming collaborative relationships initially with trading partners . CPFR as prescriptive process is applicable to retailing but has many barriers for use in the Construction industry where it is unlikely to be appropriate. However alternative approaches to collaborative planning that do not require the substantial investment in human and technological resources could result in increased responsiveness, product availability, optimised inventory and costs all which are applicable.
