Well it is true that if people apply morals just out of fear, then this has no sense, but in Islamic point of view, believers are three types, there is those who worship fearing the hell this is a worship of slaves, and those who worship greedy for heaven it is the worship of traders, and those who worship not out of fear or greed, it is the worship of free people.
This Schick's criticism is not of a value to the basic religious beliefs rather it is a criticism to the believers' behavior, since a lot of times religion are rarely properly understood.
Conclusion
In Final Words about God and Morality, it ought to be made clear that Morality does exist outside the boundaries of God; theists are not at any standards more moral than atheists, it is our own understanding and our own behavior independently of any other thing that determines our morality.
God is there or not doesn't change much about the necessity for moral behavior, Thus the role of God, is becoming less in the society of today, since the evolution of the human understanding is leading to a better understanding for life.
In Medieval ages in Europe for example, where God was most present, people weren't more moral than they are today. God and Morality are two separate things although they can be related.
