The main idea of this article, a joint work of Agnieszka Pregowska, Jędrzej Drozdowski and Magdalena Osial, is to express that today, there wouldn’t be such things as computers and internet without Claude Shannon’s genius. Thereby, people would not be able to read different papers, and certainly not in this shape and form. He made a real breakthrough in information by giving the information a numerical (mathematical) value based on probability (entropy of information, also called Shannon entropy). Before his fantastic theory of information was created, remote information transmission was possible after transforming it into alternating voltage pulses along the conductor. At the other end – receiver – they were interpreted as words. It is an excellent idea too, however, it’s suitable for short distances only due to noise. To add more, his smallest piece of information that cannot be shared (bit) still revolutionizes our world.
In conclusion, this article makes it clear that Claud Shannon has laid the foundation for the entire communication infrastructure underlying the modern information age.
