Ultimately Hobson has no choice but to ask Maggie back to stay with him due to his alcoholism. She is now holding all the cards but, as she is now in a relationship, acts with Willie to come to a suitable arrangement, which ultimately gives Maggie all she has ever wanted. Hobson would have been happy to rob his daughters of their lives so he could continue to drink his way merrily thought life. Because of the far sightedness of Maggie this did not materialise and he ended up loosing his business to his clever daughter. The tables are completely turned and the 'backward lad' Hobson threatened to whip at the beginning of the play ends up being in a partnership with his old master.…
