In July, this year, the Milanese Pinacoteca Ambrosiana attracted long queues of art devotees all longing to cast their eyes on the late Caravaggio painting, which had been locked away from public eye for years of restoration. Having myself had the delight of admiring the original painting renovated to reveal the intention of author as close as possible, I want to briefly introduce the painting and merits of restoration work.
Michelangelo Merisi alias Caravaggio is an Italian artist of 16th century, who was not only famous for his artworks, but also was notorious of having multiple encounters with the law, mostly fighting and illicit gun use. Although Caravaggio is considered to be an early baroque artist, his art was influenced by naturalism and humanism of renaissance.…
