Today’s world seems to be celebrating real and reality as media more and more exploit and show the private life of real individuals in talk shows, interviews, reality shows and so on. But are these people really ‘real’? What exactly reality is?
Despite apparent triumph of reality present world seems to be a continuous performance; however it is hard to determine who are the actors and who – the audience. Today life takes place on a stage. Stage in this case can be anything – school, work place, shopping mal or TV reality show – we all do our performances in everyday situations. Erving Goffman in his book Presentation of Self in Everyday Life writes: “..when an individual appears in the presence of others, there will usually be some reason for him to mobilize his activity so that it will convey an impression to others which it is in his interest to convey.” Goffman implies that individual acts or attempts to create an image in order to have a positive outcome for himself, no matter what his true opinion on a subject is.…
