Chapter 16 – The Alaska Interior
By the time Chris had spent two months in the Stampede Trail bus, he decided that it was the right time to get back to civilization. So he packed his belongings, took a picture of himself, clean-shaved, ready to go only to discover after 20 miles that the river which was small and calm in the spring, was now running cold and fast, swollen with rain and snowmelt from the glaciers. So he made a decision to stay at the bus for some time longer.
„The climactic battle to kill the false being within and victuriously conclude the spiritual pilgrimage.”

Chapter 17 – The Stampede Trail
The author of the book together with 3 other people visits the bus in which McCandless lived and died. His presence can be felt in the bus – much of his belongings have been left there. On the way there, the three people discovered, that if McCandless had had a map, he would know that he could have crossed the river with the help of a steel cable stretched over the river, not far from where Chris was. But unlike many other people, they do not consider McCandless to be a fool, they understand that everybody can make mistakes, especially conisdering how young he was and it’s remarkable, how long he managed to survive on the land.
„A challenge in which a successful outcome is assured isn’t a challenge at all.”
„McCandless distrusted the value of things that came easily.”
New words
Birch – bērzs
Snarl – juceklis
Malevolent – nenovīdīgs
