Andrea Yates

Andrea Yates was clearly not sane on the day she killed her children. It is absolutely sickening to think what happened to those kids that day. But as members of society, we have an obligation to help those who are sick, not to put them in prison or even sentence them to death. Andrea Yates should be receiving serious mental health care, but instead she is being forced to attempt to defend her actions, which were caused by sever mental deficiencies; she was often heard saying that even in her jail cell, Satan was attempting to contact her.
Andrea Yates doesn't need a new trial. She needs a good psychiatrist, the correct medication, and constant supervision. Until she receives care, she cannot possibly be expected to come to terms with what she did, or coherently defend her actions.
