Critically Evaluate the Extent to Which the Literacy Hour Enhances the Teaching and Learning of English as Required by the National Curriculum for English

At the end of the whole class sessions the hour continues with the teacher with normally two groups. Guided sessions is a context in which a teacher supports each reader's development of effective strategies fro processing text at increasing levels of difficulty. The goal of guided reading is for students to become fluent readers who can problem solve strategically, read independently and silently and allow the teacher to monitor and develop individual literacy skills. Each group will have the same text to read, theses small group sessions provide an ideal opportunity to explore texts in depth. However I feel the content and interest level might not always be suitable therefore discouraging the children. Guided work is one to one as well as shared teaching and learning. This learning underpins the rationale of the NLS and NC supporting the work of Bruner and Vygotsky, as scaffolding is taking place yet the work level is extended slighty out of the child's zone of proximal development to extend and enhance the literacy learning.…
