· Cyprus was the last major conquest of the Ottomans. The battle of Lepanto to some extent was the end of the struggle in the Mediterranean.
· Braudel asserts that while the battle of Lepanto was a spectacular naval battle, there were few consequences. However, had the Turk won the battle, the consequences would have been far greater, possibly even spelling the end of major Christiandom in Europe.
· Although crusades were planned after the battle, nothing ever amounted. Don John was enthusiastic about conquering lands but he had neither the troops nor resources needed.
· After the battle there was great joy in Europe, even in Protestant countries. The battle had large psychological implications, defeating the Turkish supremecy sentiment that was held by many. The importance of Lepanto was largely symbolic.
