. Roxie is left behind by Amos talking to herself about how great she is and although she has accomplished her goal of fame she has just lost the one that truly loved her.
<Tab/>As Roxie is leaving the courtroom a shot is fired and a man is killed by a woman on the front steps of the courthouse. As Roxie goes outside she is not met by any of the press likes she expects, but realizes that the other woman has just taken her fame. The press is completely focused on the other woman and now has completely forgotten about Roxie. This paints a dramatic but accurate picture of the way society was at this time. This woman took Roxie's idea of shooting a man behind closed doors and performed the actions in broad daylight. Roxie had been outdone by a more ruthless and determined individual and had lost everything she had before because of it.
<Tab/>Both Roxie and Samuel had a character flaw that centered around their innocence. In Legends of the Fall, Samuel never got the feeling of losing his innocence temporarily. Unfortunately he had to die with it. In Roxie's case, she had the chance to live with and without the innocence and in the end had to live with the fact that fame and fortune can be lost within a matter of seconds. Both were trying to live out a dream of bringing success to themselves with either fame and fortune or honor. Their only problem was that they had not learned how to balance their excessive innocence with their ruthlessness.
