One of the literature movements of 19th century was realism. In realism the author describes the things and society as they are by using all the details. W.M. Thackeray in his work “Vanity Fair” describes society as a whole but also every person separately. He satirizes people who struggled to have higher position in society and to get more material values. The moral values of person were not taken into account. That is why we can say that the world described in Vanity Fair was godless.
The subtitle of “Vanity Fair” is “A Novel without a Hero”, because there is no one main personage. Every person has its own road of life and vanity. From the list of personages the best example of vanity is Rebecca Sharp. She was born in the family of disreputable parents, but she took much pain to get higher in society. At first she used Amelia to get closer to aristocracy, but later when she realized that there is no much use of her, she started to work by herself.…
