The English language is one of the most spoken languages in the world and it is most widely taught foreign language in the schools. (English Club, 1998) It’s important, to make this studying process easier, with the need to know less grammatical rules and new words.
In second conditional sentences, there are at least four auxiliary verbs, with which you can start the resulting part of the sentence. If we use only one of them, it might be more rational.
This research examined the use of the word “would” in the second conditional sentence result part; to find out how useful can be use of “would” instead of all other 3 auxiliary verbs.
Two tests were made. In the first one, random people had to answer which of the verbs they prefer the most – “would”, “could”, “should”, “might” – and align them in the order of likeness to use them.
In the second test 6 people were examined to find out which of these auxiliary words can be written with the highest speed on QWERTY keyboard.
The research results showed that 50% of people prefer “would” as their primary choice and this word can be written with more than 8 words per minute faster than other auxiliary verbs.…
