Conclusion
A managed supply chain environment begins with forming collaborative relationships initially with trading partners . Collaborative planning must be considered within the context of existing business to business relationships. CPFR as prescriptive process is applicable to retailing but has many barriers for use in the Construction industry where it is unlikely to be appropriate. However alternative approaches to collaborative planning that do not require the substantial investment in human and technological resources could result in increased responsiveness, product availability, optimised inventory and costs all which are applicable.
There are a number of barriers to change in the construction industry, a complex but flexible industry structure, traditionally standardised methods of construction, fragmented workforce, a continued under supply of new housing and a conservative environment.
Fundamentally the purpose of supply chain management is removal of waste and cost reduction, agility focuses on the true value, that demanded by the customer. …
