It's impossible to ignore the fact that in American history, race has been a major issue especially in the recent century. In fact American history teaches us that despite race, gender and upbringing you can be famous, successful or make a difference in the world. Of course, on the other hand, there have been race relations like slavery, Jim Crow laws and segregation which have made things as simple as going to school difficult for a group of people. It tends to raise the question, does the 'American Dream' work out without government intervention, or are programs like Affirmative Action and special assistance programs necessary? Is it necessarily fair to one group of people if another group is given assistance at their expense?
