The aim of the research is to identify which are the most commonly used strategies of learning word meanings out of context in EFL classes and to investigate advantages of using this vocabulary learning strategy. The hypothesis of the research is that guessing meaning out of context is an effective strategy of vocabulary development that is frequently used by EFL teachers as a replacement of dictionary use.
To attain the above mentioned aim and prove the hypothesis, the following objectives were set:
1.to study the available material on the topic;
2.to select appropriate and relevant sources of information;
3.to develop a questionnaire for the analysis;
4.to carry out the survey;  
5.to illustrate findings, giving examples and charts;
6.to draw adequate conclusions.
