There are a number of other species that are now considered to be pathogenic such as Candida Albicans, which were once regarded as harmless species.
The use of genomics has resulted in the production of anti resistant markers that can be made to target those pathogenic genes and therefore genomics can also play a key role in the way drugs are developed. For example genomics can be used to initially screen subjects to target their infection and provide treatment appropriately. Genomics is thought to be the herald of a new era to infections. As it continues to grow we can only gasp in awe at the use it has in the pathogenesis and detection of human fungal infections.
