Phase - I
Prioritizing and developing sharper focus: The first and foremost thing that Cray needs to do is to shortlist the client industries that it would target. This would call for undertaking an immediate profit-ability study. Along with that, Cray will have to do other background research like geographical dis-persion of various industries, growth potential, industry drivers for client industries etc. This process would take anywhere from two to three months.
Communicating change: Simultaneously the management will have to communicate the intended changes to its employees. Rollwagen and top management will have to meet with employees to explain how and why they need to change. This would be good opportunity to get peoples' feedbacks before initiating the restructuring. Since R&D people would be affected the most, they will have to be con-vinced that their interests will be taken care of. This process is very critical as Cray would not want to lose its human talent due to any disillusionment with the change management process. This process can coincide with the prioritization efforts.
Phase - II
Restructuring: The next phase will involve restructuring the organization to put in place industry fo-cused teams and to align teams close to the client industries.…
