This simple diagram illustrates the process of continuous movement of water around our planet Earth. The life cycle can be divided in several stages.
At the start water droplets fall from clouds as drizzle, rain, snow or ice. This stage is known as precipitation. Next, snow and ice accumulate, later melting back in a form of liquid or vapor. Then, such water reservoirs (bodies) as streams, rivers, ponds, lakes and swamps are formed by water flowing above ground as runoff.
