Healthy eating at school is often discussed as if it were a simple matter of choosing a salad instead of sweets, drinking water instead of a sugary drink, or avoiding fast food. In reality, students’ eating habits are shaped by many factors at the same time, including taste, price, convenience, family habits, school schedules, advertising, peer influence, availability of food, personal preferences, cultural traditions, and the amount of time students have to eat. A student may understand perfectly well that a balanced meal is generally a better choice than eating only snacks, yet still choose the snack because it is cheaper, quicker, more attractive, easier to carry, or the only food available during a short break.…
