Marriage joins two people in a sacred bond. It demands that they make an exclusive commitment to each other, and in turn two separate individuals become one as a family. Yet, today marriage is in crisis; nearly half end in divorce. Marriage is a sacred vow of "till death do us part" trying to survive in a society where marriage is just another contract that is easily broken. So, how can anyone refuse marriage to a couple that are truly committed to one another and can save the prestige of this institution? The government, however, can and does deny marriage. Homosexual couples are banned from marriage and forbidden to enter into this powerful and honorable institution; a gay or lesbian couple may love each other as deeply as any two people, yet still cannot marry. Today, the question of legalizing gay marriage is a widespread topic. Society is growing and adapting. Some of what once was unthinkable is now evident in our culture such as, interracial marriage. Many, though, still intensely oppose same-sex marriages. …
