Strategies range from simplistic to long-term medical care. Pets are valuable for coping with anxiety. The presence of a dog or cat helps reduce stress (United Press International, Sept.23, 2002 p1008267w4583). Self help books are a great resource. Laughter boosts the activity of your immune system's natural killer cells and other defenses against infections according to a 2001 study in Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine (How to Laugh off stress: you can't avoid stress, but you can limit its damaging effects, Natural Health, March 20003 v33 i2 p49). Education matters, as well. Those with more education are more likely to engage in stress-reducing activities (DSN Retailing Today, Jan. 21, 2002 v41 i2 p14). Psychiatric care and long term hospital care are used in severe cases. There is no magic oil to cure stress.
Stress plays a significant role in our life. It is unavoidable. By identifying and understanding stress, we can eliminate or reduce the devastating effects and improve our abilities to cope.
