Comparison between Descartes and Plato's assertions.
Descartes and Plato, though they have argued and claimed about the same thing, yet the claims they make are quite different. Plato claims about the immortality of the soul through considering mostly 'philosophical thoughts' through his play Phaedo whereas Descartes makes his claims by considering scientific facts and reasoning combined with philosophical thoughts. Both the writers seem to be successful in conveying their message through their claims as the mind responds positively after reading their arguments.
Can these assertions convince the reader that 'The Soul is Immortal'.
The claims and assertions made in Phaedo seem to convince the readers more than the claims made by Descartes in the 'Discourse on Method'. In Phaedo, the claim of the immortality of the soul has been proved in steps by providing answers to all the questions that might rise in the mind of the reader. …
