The world of tennis is mostly unknown to people who aren’t interested in it. They may only have a vague idea about the rules and no idea at all about the tournaments which take place during the year. Some actually are unaware of tournaments at all and think the players are playing whom they want just for their own pleasure. However, there is a strict hierarchy of tennis tournaments which can be classified according to the amount of prize money for the winners.
The first type of tennis tournaments are the ones with the largest prize money offered to the participants. Those are called the Grand Slam tournaments and they are only four – the Australian Open in Melbourne, French Open in Paris, the Wimbledon in London and the U.S. Open in New York City. The average prize money given to the participants in these tournaments is eleven million pounds. This sum is divided among all of the participants so the winner does not get all eleven million.…
