In the American culture a common way of retaliation is violence. A common form of violence is fighting. Sometimes fights escalate into bigger things and weapons are used. The novel A Chronicle of a Death Foretold and the documentary Bowling for Columbine had similar conflicts and consequences. Both of the stories result in death, and either one of these two deaths have valid reasons or explanations.
The novel Chronicle of a Death Foretold is a perfect example of how violence can be influenced and in some ways be supported by the community. In this particular town a prominent man was killed and the people of the town did not it the least bit horrifying or unusual, perhaps because in the town avenging a wrong was typical. In fact, when the whole town knew that Santiago was going to die no one bothered to warn him, or maybe they just did not warn him because they did not think that it was that big of a deal, "I didn't warn him because I thought it was drunkards talk."…
