In F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby was a very wealthy man, who is portrayed as a man with many friends and many "business" connections. However, in the end the reader finds out that even with money, Gatsby is unable to have real friends who care for him for who he is, instead of for what he can give them.
