Gary Paulsen was born on May 17, 1939 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He spent a lot of time in the library because he had problems at home. He had a hard time in school too. He loves horses and dogs (he has many). He lives on a ranch in Becida, MN and also spends time in La Luz, New Mexico. He is married to an illustrator, Ruth Wright Paulsen.
