Evaluation:
I would recommend this book to everyone. Even though this island had only a small number of children on it, the characters portray those characteristics anyone would find in a classroom, jail, town, etc. All readers, in their present lives, can identify people they know who follow the rules, those that do not, those who make up rules along the way, those that are born leaders or try to convince others they should be leaders, and those who frighten people by their actions. Everyone can relate to the hunters being scared about making the first kill and how boring it must be to keep a signal fire lit. But when the hunters begin to like killing, the reader is left wondering if they, too, would enjoy the thrill and wish to continue killing. This book makes the reader ponder if they would have changed to Jack's group because of the thrill of killing or if you would have stayed with sensible Ralph trying to keep a signal fire going.
