Family circumstance
Pressures within the family could exacerbate the risk of abuse. When care is being given to a family member, the physical and emotion strain on the carer could be a precipitating factor for abuse due to exhaustion. Exhaustion and stress, as well as feeling of guilt, may damage the relationship between the carer and the vulnerable person and resentment may build up.
Economic factor
Poverty is an important element of stress in many families. Worries over how to pay the bills, no money to go on holiday, no money for socialising, arguments over how to spend the little money there is.
Environmental factor
Some housing is very poor built resulting in very damp conditions. Damp housing leads to asthmatic and ill children and higher fuel bills to heat the house. This is high bills for people already on a very low income meaning additional stress. This stress can easily erupt into physical violence.
