Born of the civil rights movement three decades ago, affirmative action is the nation's most ambitious attempt to reconcile its long history of racial and sexual discrimination. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., in his famous "I Have a Dream" speech, stated that "I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal." - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This statement, made in 1963, leads to my main question: Is affirmative action still necessary in America? …
