Conclusion
It is impossible to predict what the world will look like in the year 2050. However, by looking at the past and observing trends in society, it is possible to gain a level of insight in the future that is relevant for today's decision making. New developments in diesel engine technology that are aimed at reducing harmful emission components while maintaining a high level of energy efficiency, follow each other at an increasing quick pace. The diesel (compression ignition) engine has shown to be a reliable, energy efficient and cost effective power source for road vehicles (trucks, buses and cars) and mobile machinery (like agricultural tractors, forklift trucks and earth moving equipment). Increasingly it is clear that the inherent benefits of diesel technology - efficiency, durability and safety - have lead to diesel's emergence as playing a key role in meeting future energy and environmental goals. With new innovations and continuous improvements being done to the diesel engine, the future of diesel looks bright and its role in society definitely secure.
