Current Situation
Tourist tax is a relatively new concept, which has become more popular with island destinations in 2018. It applies to each holidaymaker aged 16 or over staying in accommodation in the area per day, per person.
The standard rates go as follows:
Luxury hotels pay €4 a per person, per day (£3.42)
Mid-range hotels pay €3 (£2.57)
Apartments and cruise ship visitors €2 (£1.71)
Campers and hostels  €1 (86p)
However after 8/9 days this decreases by 50%.
Countries currently using tourist tax include: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain and Switzerland.
