It was the idea of the inhabitants of the North, because they had manufactories and used the hired workers. But it wasn't a thought of the inhabitants of the South. The ground in the South was fertile and so people who lived there grew cotton. It is hard to collect the crop of cotton. So they used the transactions of the slaves.
