It is hard to imagine the emotions of Native Americans. Disease, warfare, hunger, massacre and despair had reduced their population from 7-10 million to less then 250,000 in under four centuries. As well as costing them their independence and more than ninety per cent of their land, the long struggle against Europeans and Euro-Americans had ruptured their sense of reality. Their tribal bonds weakened. As a whole the Native Americans tried to respond with uniting as one family under one Indian government but it was overtaken by events. Each cultural conquest had its own impacts on the Native American culture. Most Native Americans had no choice but to join the European culture to survive. If they fought their culture would die with them. They knew they had to stay alive to keep their tribe alive. So they did what they had to do. The Europeans were just too strong and powerful for the Indians. They took their land and turned it into government property. They took their trade culture and gave them an economic society. They banished their religion and gave them missions. Treaties as lives were broken. Native Americans tried to resist the European cultural conquest but they were just too powerful. If European diseases did not kill a Native American Indian the European cultural conquest would have, with or without resistance.…
