For some time after, alternative fuels, such as fossil fuel were used to replace the slowly, diminishing forests. In Canada and the U.S., wood is used as fuel in two distinct applications. Wood wastes from the forest products industry, and many homeowners use wood as a primary or secondary source of home heating. In recent studies, acid rain and global warming have resulted in a search for demand for wood, which is a renewable resource.
