Freedom from the company, he reflects, is freedom to explore and finally live their lives. The company man looks up from the papers smothering his large desk, like the snow that blankets the peaks of Mount Everest. Books and files lay strewn about the shelves and file cabinets. Awards and certificates hang on the walls next to cheap wooden plaques from company parties, picnics and golf tournaments. He glares at them for an extended period of time, and then his eyes wander back to his family photos. Moments later, he stands, grabs his jacket, and heads for the door, ready to leave his prison. When he opens the door, he finds his secretary standing there, her arms overloaded with papers and files. She smiles, hands them over, and jokingly apologizes for giving him so much to do in so little time. The company man shrugs, takes the files, and heads back to his desk. Maybe tomorrow, he ponders, and settles down to his mountain of paperwork.…
