Mars was the son of Jupiter and Juno, though legend has it that Juno was fertilized by a flower she found in a meadow.
Mars was often accompanied into battle by Bellona and Vacuna, the warrior-goddesses; by Pavor and Pallor, who truck fear into the heart of the enemy; by Fuga and Timor, deities of fear and flight; and by Honos and Virtus, who encouraged Roman soldiers in the battle.
Mortals associated with Mars were Romulus and Remus, and Illia or Rhea Silvia, their mother.
Mars' priests were called the Salii, or "Jumpers", because they would process throughout Roman cities singing songs in praise of Mars. Mars' own priest was called Flamen Martilias.
